Conferences – CAG, ACAG

Atlantic Division of the Canadian Association of Geographers Annual General Meeting (2025)

On November 22nd, I had the pleasure of presenting my current thesis research, “Improving the classification of old-growth forest with GIS and remote sensing techniques in Nova Scotia”, at the Atlantic Division of the Canadian Association of Geographers Annual General Meeting, hosted by Saint Mary’s University. I shared my ongoing thesis project, and learned about the great research going on across Atlantic Canada.

I was honoured to receive Second Place for Best Student Presentation.

From November 14th – 15th, I attended the Ontario Division of the Canadian Association of Geographers Annual General Meeting at Toronto Metropolitan University in Toronto, ON. I presented a poster at this conference showcasing my ongoing progress on my thesis, entitled “Improving the classification of old-growth forest with GIS and remote sensing techniques in Nova Scotia”. I enjoyed meeting with other students and learning more about the fantastic research going on at Ontario universities.

Canadian Association of Geographers Annual General Meeting (2025)

From May 20th – 23rd, I had the pleasure of attenting the 75th Canadian Association of Geographers Annual General Meeting & Conference at Carleton University in Ottawa, ON. I presented a poster at this conference, and enjoyed several interesting presentations in a variety of geographic fields.

The conference was held jointly with the 50th Annual Conference and General meeting of the Canadian Cartographic Association, and I was also able to attend an engaging presentation by the keynote speaker, Chief Cartographer at the National Geographic Society, Martin Gamache.

The poster was awarded Best Master’s Poster by the judges at the Canadian Association of Geographers.

Atlantic Division of the Canadian Association of Geographers Annual General Meeting (2024)

On Friday November 22, 2024, I had the pleasure of presenting a “lighting talk” at the annual meeting of the Atlantic Division of the Canadian Association of Geographers (ACAG).

I presented some preliminary ideas and directions for my Master’s thesis, entitled “A New Old-Growth Potential Index for Nova Scotia”, in which I will be exploring a new old-growth potential index for Nova Scotia, Canada through the use of remote sensing metrics.

I was honoured to be awarded the Best Student Lighting Talk recognition. I look forward to attending next year’s ACAG meeting, and sharing more information about my thesis as it progresses.
